WHAT ON EARTH CAN I WRITE ABOUT?

The year was 2014 it was a February, I remember because my teacher whose name has now escaped me (Remembering names is not one of my strengths) , asked the class to write something, anything in line with love. (February being the month of love and all)

My mind at that point was blank. Fact was half the time I can’t think of anything worth writing, worth creating and I would spend half my creating time just staring at the wall. (It was a pretty nice wall though.) Thirty minutes later, pen still in hand, page still blank, time still running. WHY IS ANYTHING COMING TO ME! I begin to panic, if I hand in another blank piece of paper , I will for sure fail this class. *Gasp!

And as if she noticed, my teacher went to the front of the class and told everyone to stop. “There was a time I was walking in town and came across a pair of shoes in the middle of the road. I wondered, how did they get there? Who left them there? I had all these questions and now I am writing a story about shoes.”
I was wondering and probably the whole class as well was wondering, why she would bring up something so random when we were racing against the clock. “We have to get this done before the next period, lady!”, we were all probably thinking.

Then she said, “You can write about anything, even shoes on the road, ideas for a piece of work are all around you.” She was right, ideas are all around us. With the very little time I had left, fifteen year old me wrote about a scandalous love story and to spice things up I even used the names Ricardo and Catarina (teenagers! am I right?)

On the brightside, I didn’t have to redo that class and also that was probably the best writing advice I have ever gotten, now I write about anything, from pancakes, to that small corner in the room, to farts! (I am kidding)

Point is you can write about anything, even shoes you saw just sitting on the side of the road.

Happy writing 🙂
